Ledger’s Nano S Plus hardware wallet has officially been put on sale in April 2022. The Ledger Nano S Plus is an updated version of the French company’s entry-level hardware portfolio, the Ledger Nano S, with a refreshed design that includes a larger screen and revised internals and more memory.

Indeed, it is a device that not only stores crypto currencies such as Bitcoin (BTC) or Litecoin (LTC), but also non-fungible tokens or NFTs.

Features of the Ledger Nano S Plus

At first glance, the Ledger Nano S Pluss looks like a chunky thumb drive covered in some kind of aluminum shield that rotates to reveal the main body of the device. However, the latter has smaller dimensions and a weight of 21 grams. The screen measures 128 x 64 pixels, which may not seem like much but is already superior to the Nano S.

The Nano S Plus features a more curved design with rounded buttons. It has a USB-C connector just like the Nano X, in place of the old Micro-USB connector of the Nano S. As a result, the power supply is via USB-C cable and the memory is 1.50 MB.

In today’s devices we are used to hearing about memories of several tens and hundreds of GB, so a capacity of one megabyte may seem insufficient, but it must be considered that a crypto- currency weighs a few tens of KB. This means that the Ledger Nano S Plus can hold up to 100 apps at the same time while the previous version only allowed 4 to 5 at best.

Like the Nano S, the Nano S Plus lacks the Bluetooth functionality or internal battery of the Nano X, meaning you’ll need to connect it with a USB-C cable. But it is also possible to buy a Ledger OTG kit (or use an equivalent cable) to connect your device to an Android phone via the Ledger Live app.

Ledger Nano S Plus: features and benefits

Besides Ledger Live, you can also use the Nano S Plus with over 50 web wallets such as MetaMask, MyEtherWallet, and MyCrypto.

The Nano S Plus has the capacity to store around 5,500 cryptocurrencies and NFT tokens, just like the Nano X. The difference is with the Model S, launched in 2016, which has a smaller capacity. Indeed, the original Nano S could only keep three apps on the device at a time, which was perfectly fine in 2016 when the number of cryptocurrencies was limited.

Among the crypto-currencies that can be stored on the Nano S Plus, we can mention: Bitcoin (BTC) – Ethereum (ETH) – Zcash (ZEC) – Litecoin (LTC) – Dogecoin (DOGE) – the Tron (TRX) – ERC-20 tokens – and many more.

The security aspect of the Ledger Nano S Plus

Like any hardware wallet, the Ledger Nano S Plus ensures that private keys are generated securely on the device. This offers a very high level of security compared to electronic wallets. Generally speaking, the security of the Nano S Plus can be compared to that of the Nano X. Both use the same components, except the Nano X also has a battery and Bluetooth for better mobile compatibility.

Bluetooth connectivity in particular offers some possibility of hacking, which is why having the Ledger Nano S Plus would be more advantageous.

Among other things, the Ledger Nano X has obtained the CSPN certificate (First Level Security Certificate) issued by the ANSSI (National Agency for the Security of Information Systems). Since the same components have been installed, this can be transferred to the Ledger Nano S Plus. The certification report can be viewed online.

The price of the Ledger Nano S Plus

the base price of a Ledger Nano S Plus is of 79 € and is currently available on the official Ledger website. This is an intermediate price between the different models offered by Ledger, since the Nano X costs €149 and the Nano S €59.
