News hardware Thanks to this study, we now know exactly what you do in the morning when you wake up!
Rather tea or coffee? Pain au chocolat or croissant? This study, carried out by NordVPN among 1002 French people aged at least 18, will unfortunately not answer this question, but does teach us a little more about the morning digital habits of our dear compatriots. And the results are sometimes surprising!
- The smartphone, central element of our day
- 30% of French people start working during breakfast
- The smartphone everywhere, all the time, guilty or not guilty?
The smartphone, central element of our day
How far is French romance, the breakfast brought to bed with a rose on the tray. The sweet smell of toast and the pleasure of freshly squeezed orange juice… If this is still roughly the image that we send back to foreigners who are still very much in love with our country, it would seem that the reality is quite different, especially on the side of the famous generations Y or Z…
During this study, the pollsters were interested in the following three questions :
- What time do the French start using their devices?
- What do the French do in the morning?
- What do they think of their digital habits and what would they change?
The first point on which the study dwells concerns the moment when French people aged 18 and over use their smartphone for the first time in a day and the results are striking!
Basically, France is divided into two, the over and under 50s. The younger we are, the more we have become accustomed to using our cell phone as soon as we wake up. This figure rises to 77% for 18-24 year olds, the famous Generation Z. On the contrary, the older we are, the more we benefit from a gentle awakening and the mobile phone only comes later, once up and wide awake. .
30% of French people start working during breakfast
Whether we like it or not, today’s world doesn’t have much of a romantic side to it and everything digital has taken over from the passionate discussions of the morning.
If 82% of French people start their “digital day” by using their smartphone, we note that 35% of us also watch TV in the morning, 33% consult their computer and 20% their tablet.
But what exactly are all these people doing on their smartphones in the morning? Unsurprisingly, more than 56% go on social media, followed closely by checking messages or going around the news. 30% of us even say they start working by consulting professional emails, for example, while, more amusingly, 29% of people questioned say they simply turn off or postpone the alarm clock.
To go further, the study also asked where and when we used our smartphone in the morning. It took little for the toilets to delight the first place at breakfast!
The smartphone everywhere, all the time, guilty or not guilty?
And if we observe an omnipresence of digital from the first moments of the day, do not believe that all this disappears once the landing of the door crossed, quite the contrary!
32% of respondents say they continue to use their smartphone while walking in the street, at the risk of hitting a pole in the head, 30% in bars, cafes or restaurants, thank you for the friendliness, 30% also in public transport ( there we understand them) but also 26% by car… We will naively believe that these 26% all have a private driver, otherwise thank you road safety…
In the end, a last question was asked about their relationship to their smartphone, and here are the results:
