As expected, in parallel with the presentation of the Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, Samsung unveiled its new range of connected watches, the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, on Wednesday. In total, the manufacturer thus presented two new models, three formats and six variations of new watches, not to mention the different colors offered.

Exit the Active or Classic ranges. For its Galaxy Watch 5, Samsung now uses a nomenclature well known to smartphone enthusiasts. We are thus entitled to a classic watch, the Galaxy Watch 5, available in 40 and 44 mm versions, and to a more advanced Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and only available in a 45 mm version.

Despite this difference in range, the two watches offer identical functionalities. They are equipped with a new bio-active sensor optimized to better fit the shape of the wrist. This should result in more accurate readings for measuring heart rate or pulse blood oxygen saturation.

As on the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, the Korean manufacturer has also added electrocardiogram and blood pressure measurements. It is not yet known, however, whether these measurements can be carried out with any smartphone or whether, as with previous models, users will necessarily have to have a Samsung smartphone.

Among other measures, Samsung announces an analysis of sleep quality and snoring. We expected it and it’s half confirmed: the firm has even integrated a temperature sensor into its new Galaxy Watch 5. However, it will not be used by Samsung with a specific functionality. However, the manufacturer will let developers access it if they wish to develop applications around this measurement.

A Galaxy Watch 5 Pro more robust, more enduring and better cut for sport

Where the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro differs from the Galaxy Watch 5 is mainly in the design. The Pro version indeed incorporates a slightly larger case with a thin fixed bezel around the screen. For its part, the design of the Galaxy Watch 5 is much more similar to that of the Galaxy Watch 4.

The same goes for materials since the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 benefits from an aluminum case with sapphire crystal when the Pro version incorporates a titanium case with sapphire crystal. Some functions are also more advanced for athletes on the “Pro” version with the possibility of exporting GPX files to analyze the route of their races, the integration of step-by-step navigation and the return to their starting point.

Who says bigger watch also says larger battery and more generous autonomy. The Galaxy Watch 5 are no exception to this rule. The Galaxy Watch 5 40 mm has a 284 mAh battery, the Galaxy Watch 5 44 mm has a 410 mAh battery and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro has a 590 mAh battery.
