Game News Resident Evil 4: Remake, release date, news – All the info on the return of the cult horror game

It was one of the nice surprises of Thursday’s State of Play: the announcement of the remake of Resident Evil 4, a cult survival-horror originally released in 2005. After the second and third episodes, Capcom therefore continues to deliver the famous license up to date. And while the information has just fallen, there are already a lot of details to put in their mouths. For you we take stock.

Find above, in auto-play, the trailer announcing the remake of Resident Evil 4.

We start with the most important information, the release date: the remake of Resident Evil 4 will land March 24, 2023 on PS5, Xbox Series and PC. Yes, it is not because the title was unveiled at PlayStation that it is not multi-platform! So there’s a good year left for the Capcom teams to polish their baby, which looks great in this first trailer. Note that the survival horror revamp will eventually offer content for PSVR 2, Sony’s new virtual reality headset. For this point, however, no advanced date. It must be said that the accessory does not even have an exit window.

As with the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, Capcom will take up the basics of the fourth episode while reinterpreting a lot of things. The aim is to strike a good balance between modernity and respect for the basic gamereleased in 2005. “We develop (Resident Evil 4, editor’s note) with the aim of offering an exceptional level of quality, up to what can be expected from a survival horror in 2023, while preserving the ‘essence of the original game’ tells us Capcom about the PlayStation-Blog. “We want fans of the series to rediscover what made the game so successful, while injecting new and refreshing elements.” As a result, the story will be rewritten “keeping the main plot”, the controls will be adapted to the current standard (we think in particular of being able to shoot while moving) without forgetting “a striking visual rendering of details”. The remake of Resident Evil 4 will therefore, of course, exploit the potential of the RE Engine, Capcom’s game engine. Finally, note that for now, we do not know if the adventure will take place in the third or first person, as on RE7 and RE8.

Even if it is acquired that the scenario will be the subject of notable changes, Capcom remains for the moment mysterious with regard to them. By comparison, the Resident Evil 2 remake had welcomed additional phases compared to the original work. We can therefore imagine a similar treatment in this case. What is certain, however, is that the cult scenes will be there. The trailer indeed lets glimpse the moment when the hero, Léon S Kennedy, begins his macabre adventure, very thoughtful, the head against the window of a vehicle. Just like the moment when he meets his first zombie in a cabin, while he is looking for help. As a reminder, the events of Resident Evil 4 take place six years after those of the second episode. With his reputation and his experience, Léon must find the daughter of the President of the United States, Ashley – who can be seen in the trailer – recently kidnapped. A track that will take him to a remote European village, with not really comfortable inhabitants and led by a sect.

Beyond bringing back the cult horror license – especially in the wake of the very good Resident Evil Village – Resident Evil 4 marked the entry of the series into the modern era. In the closet fixed camera angles: place in a third person view, with a particular focus on the action without neglecting the atmosphere. The recipe for success ! With its many reissues, Resident Evil 4 has sold more than 125 million copies worldwide. You will therefore understand that this remake is expected at the turn, after the redesign of Resident Evil 3 which did not convince more than that. Following the seventh and eighth episodes, Capcom knew restore the image of his franchise, with a dive into horror more immersive than ever, carried by a solid technique and an excellent artistic direction. This new title seems to have been the subject of the same care. In short, we can’t wait. Answer on March 24, 2023, on PC and consoles.
