The elegance of a statutory sedan, the profile of a sporty station wagon and a small SUV side with an unusual ground clearance (19.4 cm), plastic wheel arches and large 19-inch wheels… The New C5 X is an atypical line, a unique mix of genres, an original style very much in the spirit of the great Citroëns that were the DS, XM and CX. “I drive almost exclusively in electric mode”

Fan of alternative technologies, Olivier is all the more curious to take the wheel that he tries, here, his Plug-in Hybrid version. This combines a 180 hp 1.6-litre PureTech with a 110 hp electric motor for a combined power of 225 hp and a torque of 360 Nm.

A few years ago, I was skeptical that electric or hybrid cars could be a credible alternative to combustion engines. But today, given their progress in terms of autonomy and their very good driving pleasure, I am convinced of their interest. With them, we even have the impression of making a small gesture for the planet…”he continues before adding: This C5 X Rechargeable Hybrid is also particularly suitable for my daily use. As I travel about 90 km per day between Rennes and Vitré, I drive almost exclusively in electric mode. By recharging once at night at my home on a standard socket and then again as soon as I arrive at my workplace where several Green’up™ sockets are available, I am right within the window of its electrical autonomy ( Citroën, announces up to 55 km in the WLTP cycle Ed) “.

Note that the New C5 X recharges its 12.4 kWh Lithium-ion battery to 100% in 7 h 05 on a standard socket, in 3 h 55 with a mode 2 cable on a Green’up™ socket, in 3 h 25 on a Wallbox with a mode 3 cable and in just 1 hour 40 minutes with the 7.4 kW on-board charger offered as an option at €400.

During its first week of use, Olivier traveled 430 km consuming on average only 1.8 liters of gasoline! And he has adapted perfectly to driving a C5 X which he finds “spacious”, “ easy to handle ” with a ” good road feel ” and especially “ super comfortable “, it is true that in addition to the silent operation of its plug-in hybrid engine and laminated front and rear windows that perfectly isolate outside noise, the big Citroën puts the package on the ride comfort side with its new ” Active suspension Citroën Advanced Comfort “. By combining the progressive hydraulic stops with active steering, it continuously adapts the firmness of the damping of each wheel to the irregularities of the road and even adapts to the driving mode selected (Electric, Hybrid, Comfort or Sport). .

Like my colleagues who only gave me compliments, I really like the line of this C5 X. It has a nice balance between sportiness and elegance and many very nice little style details such as the openwork rear spoiler and the little fin.

We find the Citroën DNA, it changes SUVs that we see everywhere! I’m also very positively surprised by the interior. Unlike most sedans I’ve had the opportunity to drive, it feels less like going down in the car when you get into it. Once installed, you absolutely don’t feel cramped in the passenger compartment, which I even find very spacious, especially in the rear seats, especially since the driving position, slightly raised, is also perfect for understanding the contours of the car. body.

The atmosphere on board is warm with very beautiful leather seats and a touch screen which creates a real surprise thanks to its large size. The ergonomics are also neat, even if I find the gear lever controls and the “Brake” mode controls too small, which is a bit awkward when I want to manipulate them while driving. Similarly, given the size of the C5 X (4.81 m long Ed) I expected a larger trunk (485 l in this Plug-in Hybrid version against 545 l for the thermal versions, due to the presence of the battery Editor’s note). Fortunately, it is very accessible and very accommodating.

Otherwise, I immediately felt confident at the wheel of this C5 X with which we benefit from very good visibility and excellent road feel. The Ë-EAT8 automatic transmission could be a little more responsive to my taste, but the torque of the electric motor is a guarantee of safety and serenity. Power is immediately available. A treat, we really have the impression of having a magic power! Especially since this Citroën is clearly a comfort-oriented car, both by its very soft suspensions and by its great silence of operation which means that I appreciate in the evening, on returning from work, to be able to relax while listening to my radio station. favorite “.
