super mario odyssey
Mario is one of the best-known characters from Nintendo and more widely from the video game world. Super Mario Odyssey is a platform game, released the same year as the Switch and has proven to be a pleasant revival for the adventures of the most famous plumber. As usual, Princess Peach has been kidnapped by the infamous Bowser… And Mario must embark on a long journey to rescue her beauty. But it is Mario’s companion, a living cap named Cappy, who brings originality to the game. Our hero can throw it at his enemies to control or attack them and also serve as a temporary platform. Super Mario Odyssey is an exploratory adventure that offers a wide variety of gameplay.
Released in 2021, Metroid Dread is the latest opus of the license and probably one of the best. We find the heroine in armor Samus Aran facing a new threat, for a game that seems to return to the origins of the saga. Samus travels to the planet ZDR to unravel strange transmissions there suggesting the X-parasites, believed to be long extinct, and find out what is going on on this hostile world. Between action, exploration and infiltration, the plot is captivating and will make any fan of the license nostalgic. Fluid gameplay, well-balanced difficulty and a wide range of abilities ensure the success of Metroid Dread.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate
The famous arena fighting game, released in 2018. From Mario to Bayonetta, via Pikachu or Link, Super Smash Bros Ultimate brings together a total of 75 characters. If most of them had already appeared in previous games, there are a dozen new ones like Marie (Animal Crossing) or Daisy (Super Mario). The rules couldn’t be simpler: attack your opponents until you knock them out of the field in order to be the last to stay there. Controlled gameplay, wide range of courses and objects, excellent soundtrack. A good game to have a good time, alone or with others, although we quickly find ourselves fully in these fiery fights. Super Smash Bros Ultimate is a real Switch staple.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
The ultimate racing game and a simply cult game! Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has topped Nintendo’s charts since its release in 2017, with a current total of 43.35 million copies sold. Super Mario characters, accompanied by leading representatives of other Nintendo licenses such as Splatoon or Zelda, meet for epic and colorful races. Players can compete in multiple race types, mini-games, and 32 tracks in the base game alone. Added to this figure are the 48 new DLC races that are gradually arriving. With family, friends, or even alone, the Mario Kart formula has always convinced its wide audience, and this latest opus only confirms this rule once again.
Luigi’s Mansion 3
If Mario is Nintendo’s most famous character, his brother Luigi is also entitled to his own adventures. In Luigi’s Mansion 3, released in 2018, our hero must once again face his fears and go ghost hunting in a haunted mansion. Armed with his ghost vacuum cleaner, Luigi will have to explore the terrifying house and rescue his friends, who have fallen into an ambush set by Amber Brusquade and King Boo. This third opus of Luigi’s Mansion marks the return of Gooigi, a slimy green version of our plumber, with special and very useful abilities for this adventure among ghosts. The game remains a great Nintendo classic with rich gameplay and a memorable atmosphere.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Released in 2019, Fire Emblem: Three Houses is the thirteenth game in the tactical RPG saga and the first to be released on Nintendo Switch. Players take on the role of Byleth, a mercenary who has no memory of his past and who finds himself in the middle of a political conflict. Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a success. The organization of the battles in squads is a nice revival for the saga, we also appreciate the wide possibilities of specialization of the units, and the scenario taking with choices that count. Despite a somewhat static staging, the game is still an excellent opus!
Triangle Strategy is a tactical RPG in the same vein as Fire Emblem, released on March 4, 2022. Three nations compete for control of salt and iron mining. In addition to battles where strategy will be required, players must make choices that directly impact the story, especially during political votes where other characters must be convinced. This is a particularly original point for this game whose ending changes according to these different choices. A beautiful visual and a quality soundtrack complete this very engaging scenario. Triangle Strategy is a nice surprise.
Kirby and the Forgotten World
Recently released (March 25, 2022), Kirby and the Forgotten World is Nintendo’s new hit. The game is the youngest of the small pink ball license, born in 1992. After being sucked into a black hole, Kirby finds himself in the Forgotten World and will have to save him from an evil entity. This time, we modify the formula: it is still a platform game, but in 3D and in an open world. And it’s successful for our cute companion! Even if the game is simple as a whole, it is very pleasant visually as well as in its gameplay, and brings a good revival for the license.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
It’s time to end this selection gently. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a historic game since it was THE containment game, arriving just in time to allow players to escape while staying at home. The new opus once again transports players to this cute world populated by animals and good vibes. Cultivate your vegetable garden, fish, craft objects, cook, decorate your island and your house… No pressure on Animal Crossing, just relaxation and escape. On the other hand, the game is less rich than its predecessors, even after two years of release and with its Happy Homes Paradise DLC. But we forgive him and Animal Crossing: New Horizons is nonetheless enjoyable to play and an essential title for the Nintendo Switch.
